Introduction – New contributor to the OpenELIS community

Hi everyone, @samuel

My name is Md Khurshid Alam, and I’m a recent engineering graduate. I’m excited to join the community and start contributing to OpenELIS Global.

Previously, I was selected as an LFX mentee under the Cloud Native Computing Foundation Microcks project, where I worked on deploying Microcks across managed Kubernetes services on multiple cloud platforms such as GKE, AKS, and EKS. Through this mentorship, I gained strong hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Docker, CI/CD, and cloud-native systems.

I have also been part of the Protocol Labs Dev Guild (Cohorts 4, 5, and now 6), where I contributed to projects in the IPFS ecosystem, including work related to the Storacha console toolkit.

From a technical perspective, I’m comfortable working with JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, and REST APIs, and I have experience building and maintaining modern web applications. Recently, I’ve been focusing more on React and TypeScript, particularly around improving code maintainability and performance.

I’m especially interested in the project “Modernizing the OpenELIS React Frontend with TypeScript and Performance Optimization.” The goal of migrating the frontend to TypeScript and improving performance through better state management, component refactoring, and optimization techniques is something that aligns closely with my interests.

Currently, I’m exploring the OpenELIS repositories and documentation to better understand the existing frontend architecture. I’m looking forward to starting contributions soon.

If there are specific areas in the frontend codebase that would be good starting points for new contributors, I would really appreciate any guidance.

Looking forward to learning from the community and contributing to the project.
