Title: Configure Spanish as the Secondary Language Instead of French in OpenELIS Global

Hello OpenELIS Global Community,

I am implementing OpenELIS Global for a clinical laboratory in Guatemala. Our current deployment uses OpenELIS Global version 3.2.1.9.

The system currently allows certain administrative information to be entered in English and French. However, for our implementation, we need Spanish to be the secondary language instead of French, particularly for all configuration options available under:

Home → Admin Management → Test Management

Examples include:

  • Creating or updating laboratory tests with names and descriptions in English and Spanish.
  • Creating or updating sample types with information in English and Spanish.
  • Configuring other Test-Organization catalog data in Spanish instead of French.

Our goal is to keep English as the primary language and use Spanish as the secondary language for data entry and configuration.

Could you please provide guidance on the following questions?

  1. Is it possible to replace French with Spanish as the secondary language throughout the Test Management module?
  2. Can the French-language fields be disabled or hidden and replaced with Spanish-language fields?
  3. Is this behavior controlled through an OpenELIS configuration setting, locale file, database configuration, or source-code customization?
  4. Would this change apply only to the user interface, or can Spanish also be configured as the secondary language for database records and administrative catalog data?
  5. Are there any existing Spanish localization resources or community-supported translation files available for OpenELIS Global?
  6. If this functionality is not currently supported, would a code customization be required to implement English and Spanish as the two languages used for administrative data entry?

The desired configuration is:

  • Primary language: English
  • Secondary language: Spanish
  • French: Disabled or not displayed

Any documentation, configuration examples, or technical guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Best regards

Alex de la Cruz
