Hi OpenELIS GSoC team,

I’m Nigar, a 2026 CS student deeply interested in contributing to OpenELIS through GSoC 2026.

In preparation, I’ve spent the last week studying the patient and sample modules end-to-end —not just to find issues, but to understand how this system serves real patients in resource-limited labs.

Add defensive input validation- in PatientService/SampleService lookup methods (e.g., getPatientByNationalId) to prevent unnecessary DAO calls from malformed integrations.

Add ISO/SLIPTA-compliant audit logging-on patient/sample creation (privacy-safe: logs only internal IDs, project, user).

Would this be a welcome contribution as I prepare my GSoC 2026 application?
This directly supports your “Improve Integration Tests” and “FHIR Facade” GSoC projects by hardening the foundation.

If approved, I’ll submit a PR this week

thank you @Moses_Mutesasira ….for timely updating
