Hello OpenELIS Community!
My name is Rehan, and I am a 3rd-year Computer Science student from India. I am very excited that OpenELIS Global has been selected for GSoC 2026!
I have been looking for an organization where I can apply my backend skills to a project with real-world healthcare impact. My core technical stack includes Java, Spring Boot, REST API design, and Docker. Recently, I have been building scalable backend systems for my personal projects.
Since this is my first time participating in open source, my immediate goal for this week is to simply set up the OpenELIS-Global-2 development environment on my local machine via Docker and read through the documentation.
I am particularly interested in backend-focused tasks, API integrations, or writing backend tests.
Looking forward to interacting with the mentors and fellow contributors!
Best, Rehan

welcome @rehann07 looking forward to have you contribute to the community !
have you heard a chance to look at our wiki ?
Hi Derrick, thank you for the warm welcome!
I am just starting to explore the community today. Could you point me to the exact link for the Wiki and the GSoC 2026 project ideas list? I want to make sure I am reading the most up-to-date documentation.
My immediate goal for this weekend is to get the OpenELIS-Global-2 environment running locally on my machine using Docker. Because my background is in Java, Spring Boot, and backend architecture, I’m specifically looking for projects or issues related to REST APIs and backend services.
Looking forward to diving in!

Got it, thank you so much, Derrick! I am opening the wiki now to read through the Developer Installation guide and the GSoC project ideas. I’ll get started on the Docker setup this weekend.
