My Progress So Far:
I have started setting up the OpenELIS development environment locally and am actively exploring the codebase to understand the project architecture. I’m looking for beginner-friendly issues to make my first contribution — any pointers from the community would be greatly appreciated!
GSoC 2026 Interest:
I am very interested in the Create a Comprehensive FHIR Facade Layer for OpenELIS Global project. I understand that OpenELIS currently relies on a separate HAPI FHIR JPA server to handle FHIR interactions, which introduces synchronization challenges with the OpenELIS database. Building a native FHIR facade that enables direct FHIR transactions within OpenELIS is a problem I find both technically compelling and practically impactful.
My Spring Boot and REST API background gives me a solid starting point, and I am actively learning the FHIR specification and the HAPI FHIR Java library to prepare for this project. I would love to connect with @reagan meant to better understand the existing architecture and discuss how I can start contributing meaningfully.
My name is Jatin Sohanvi, a Backend Developer from Mohali, India. I hold an M.Sc. in Computer Science from Panjab University and currently work at Edios Global building production-grade REST APIs with Java, Spring Boot, MySQL, and Hibernate.
I am applying for GSoC 2026 and I’m very interested in the “Improve Integration Tests Coverage” project. Writing clean, well-tested Java code is something I genuinely enjoy — I’ve recently contributed null guard fixes with unit tests to OpenMRS Core (PRs #5991 and #5992), so I understand the importance of test coverage in healthcare systems.
